Murder And Manslaughter Offences

At Holborn Law, we believe in offering comprehensive legal advice as early as possible. The sooner you call us the better able we are to protect your interests. In murder or manslaughter investigations, our criminal defence solicitors can help you with:

Whilst we prefer to be involved from the outset to make sure you get the best advice possible, if you already have a criminal defence solicitor, want to move solicitors or need a second opinion because of the seriousness of the charges you are facing, our criminal defence solicitors may be able to assist.

Criminal Investigations

If the police suspect you of murder or manslaughter you may think your best option is to not involve lawyers as the police will think you are guilty or that you have something to hide if you ask to speak to a criminal defence solicitor. Anyone who is suspected of committing a crime needs a criminal law solicitor and especially when the criminal investigation is into something as serious as murder or manslaughter.

Any murder or manslaughter investigation is likely to be long and complicated. One of the first jobs a criminal defence solicitor will do is check the evidence that the police have and ask for disclosure so they can properly represent your interests whilst you are being interviewed under caution.

Before the interview process, you will need advice on the law on murder and manslaughter as well as advice on whether to exercise your right to silence, information on police custody time limits and being bailed by the police pending further investigation.

However long or complex the investigation, the team at Holborn Law will be proactive, and thorough and protect your interests.

The Law On Murder And Manslaughter

The law on murder and manslaughter may be more complicated than you think. For example, the police may think something is murder when it isn’t. It could be manslaughter or self-defence. Understanding the law on murder and manslaughter and arguing your case could result in different charging decisions being made and very different sentencing results.

With manslaughter, it is important to look at whether the police and the CPS are alleging you committed voluntary (with intent) or involuntary manslaughter (without intent, such as gross negligence manslaughter) so your criminal defence solicitors can focus on the elements of the crime the prosecution have to prove and that your defence has to disprove.

Criminal Legal Aid

At Holborn Law we offer criminal legal aid where available. If you are arrested, or if you attend the police station voluntarily for an interview under caution, you are entitled to free criminal legal aid for a police station representative. You may be offered the services of a duty solicitor but you have the right to ask the police to call Holborn Law for you.

If you are charged with murder or manslaughter our team of criminal defence solicitors will look at your eligibility for criminal legal aid to cover the costs of your representation. Even if you are employed or if you own a business, you may still be entitled to criminal legal aid because of the extent of your disposable income and the serious nature of the offence you are charged with.

We pride ourselves on combining expert legal experience with adopting a non-judgmental approach to advising on criminal law, however serious the charges are against you.
